About
I’m a software application developer in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina. I’m primarily interested in developing database-centric tools and web applications, written in ColdFusion, PHP, Perl or Ruby on Rails. In my current job, I’m developing applications with ColdFusion and the Mach-II framework.
I’ve been developing software applications and systems for about 20 years. I spent about 13 years at Nortel Networks, working in several different areas of software development. I developed Engineering tools, switching system software and spent my final years at Nortel working on web applications.
During the Telecommunications Industry meltdown in 2001, my position at Nortel was eliminated, and I was out of work for a while.
In 2002, I was hired by a small start-up company called Silicon Mobius. It was a great experience - the most fun job I’ve ever had. My role was to help with any software-related tasks, including the web site. It was a great job until the company ran out of money at the beginning of 2003.
After Silicon Mobius, I worked on a contracting assignment at Cisco Systems. It was very interesting and challenging work. When I completed the Cisco assignment in the fall of 2003, I accepted a position with Lockheed Martin.
I stayed with Lockheed Martin for two and a half years, and wanted to try something different. I was offered a job at McClatchy Interactive in 2006, developing parts of a content management system used by a large number of online newspapers. Practically all of the technology that we used there was open source. It was a great job and I worked with some extremely bright developers.
After a few years at McClatchy Interactive, I decided to go back to Lockheed Martin. Now I’m working with ColdFusion again, on a large system used by the EPA.
