Application Developer (2001)

  • Developed simulations of SNMP-based network devices using Tcl on a Solaris server to determine the recovery capacity of the devices’ element managers.
  • Provisioned cable modems in the network element managers for recovery simulations.
  • Enabled an IT team to identify web servers on Nortel’s intranet that could be consolidated to reduce corporate expenses. The web servers were identified with a Perl tool initially designed in 1997.
  • Continued enhancing and supporting the web site that was created in previous role.

Web Application Developer (2000 to 2001)

  • Designed and administered an NT-hosted intranet web site that served as a repository for documentation, presentations and other information related to a large set of corporate solutions.
  • Created several web-based tools with Perl and Javascript that included a file browser, action register, search facility and Microsoft Access database administration tool.

Web Application Developer (1997 to 2000)

  • Served as the Development Prime for the globalization of a large internal engineering system, consisting of a web-based front-end written in Perl and Javascript, an Oracle database and several background daemon processes that communicate with other systems.
  • Designed, implemented and supported large web applications on the Nortel intranet. The applications provided services for Engineering, Marketing, and other corporate groups; they included scheduling tools for Central Office software upgrades, and a search/reporting tool for Central Office features. The web applications were written in Perl and Javascript, were integrated with Oracle databases and ran on Unix servers.
  • Created a Nortel newsgroup archive and web application in Perl, similar to Deja.com.

Client/Server Developer (1995 to 1997)

  • Developed client/server applications in C for a Unix environment.
  • Created and supported several web-based tools for departmental use.
  • Served on a team responsible for the creation of a departmental web site on the corporate intranet.
  • Created a web server survey of the Nortel Networks intranet, similar to the Netcraft.com survey.
  • Served as a departmental ISO 9001 process prime.

Unix Tools Developer (1994 to 1995)

  • Served as the Team Leader/Architect for a major rewrite of several application programs written in C for a Unix platform.
  • Created an extensive library to serve as a base for the new applications.
  • Developed and led an internal C language class for engineers.

Switching Software Designer (1991 to 1994)

  • Sustained real-time switching software written in Protel, a proprietary Nortel switching systems language.
  • Served on a small team of designers responsible for the architectural control of approximately 450 software modules.
  • Performed module ownership duties for approximately 30 software modules.

Unix Tools Developer (1988 to 1991)

  • Designed and supported tools written in C that automated the conversions of AT&T switches to DMS-100s.
  • Created many productivity-enhancing tools for other developers and engineers.
